Cardiovascular disease is a complicated, but often preventable, health condition that is related to one of every three deaths in the U.S. Professor of Public Health at Harvard University David Williams has said that health policy needs to intersect with diverse avenues that affect individuals health. “Everything that we can do to improve the quality of life of individuals in our society has an impact on their health and is a health policy,” Williams said. Pulse of Life is a documentary shorts series examining how communities in San Diego, California are intervening to make healthy choices easier by providing more equitable access to healthy food, health education, health care, public transportation, physical activities, and a safer built environment.

Discussion Guide

Ten short videos created by community and youth video producers are available with discussion questions, suggested actions, group activities, and additional resources. This resource is available to help facilitate communication in community groups and classrooms with the goal of helping youth and families develop healthy habits that prevent cardiovascular disease and childhood obesity. The discussion guide was created with Prezi, an online tool that livens up presentations.
